115: Resurrection
12/16/2022
Today was the first day in six years and three months that I actually contributed some new work to my Batu narrative. Albeit only 350 words, in the form of the Jabwe & Walumbi fable. But I also rewrote three chapters from The Fever, which came to 4,291 words. Within the next couple days, I hope to get done transcribing the edited and new versions for the rest of the chapters from The Fever, which is six more chapters, and about 10,000 more words. There will be eight more chapters left to do for The Fever after that, and none of those have been written at all, so I’ll be starting from scratch. Then there’s ten more chapters to do from scratch for the Ghost Frog before the entire first book can be called finished.
So, that’s 18 chapters to come up with from scratch, and I got two years and three months to do it. That’s 1 ½ months per chapter. Not sure if that should worry me or not.
On the plus side, by the end of this weekend I’ll have 59 chapters of the first book done. So, it’s not so much that I have 30% yet to do as it is that I got 70% of it done.
I spent the whole day yesterday reading all 114 journal entries that I’ve made up to this point, and it really got my juices going, which has inspired me to get back to work. And since I actually did work on Batu stuff all day today, I thought that earned me the right to finally make a new entry here.
So… Let’s get this ball rolling again.
Present-Day Reflection
9/17/2026
It appears as though this Author’s Journal saved my entire Batu Saga, resurrecting all my hard work from the ashes. I don’t really remember what was going on inside my head back in December of 2022 that got me to sit back down to writing, so I’ll have to take my word for it that I was inspired by rereading all these old journal entries.
I actually appreciate the fact that I dispensed with the philosophizing about the possible reasons why I hadn’t been working, and just got down to business. Sometimes it’s okay to leave things alone in the dark basement of my subconscious. It’s enough to just be getting back to it.
