Well, what ended up happening was precisely what I said I didn’t want to do. I finished Chapter 56: Visions last night, at a couple lines over 7 pages and 2,260 words, but I ended up writing out Alena’s vision followed by a scene with her and Joyul helping Kiza and Anaka build their hut. No new village scenery, and no evocative imagery except in Alena’s vision, which I wasn’t even supposed to write.
Problem was, no ideas came to me over the weekend. Then after writing the scene of Alena’s vision on Monday, I set it aside for two days while reorganizing and editing my memoir again, and no new ideas occurred to me so that by Thursday – yesterday - I simply wrote the rest of the chapter with what I had.
I got in all the key elements I wanted, but aside from organizing them and placing them within the context of the 4 girls building a hut, nothing new emerged as a surprise for me.
I’m glad I got it done on schedule, and it will at least serve as a solid foundation for future rewrites should any fresh ideas come to me, but for now it feels kind of flat and undeveloped. Though that may be because I only spent 2 days writing it, in addition to not getting any big surprises from it.
Anyway, since Tapu Steals the Sun was already finished back in 2016, I only have one more chapter to write to finish off this Ghost Frog section. This one has to have surprises for me, because though I know what will happen, I still have no idea how it will happen.
And now I have another weekend to figure it out by Monday.
