95: A Mirror of Past & Present

I just finished Part One: Children of Batu. It came to 21 chapters; 132 pages; 43,547 words. I wrote Chapter 15: A Mother of Batu four days ago, then finished the last one tonight, Chapter 20: Friends. This is it now. I’d like to believe this is really it – no more rewrites of these first chapters!
At least not until I’m on a computer.
I’m going to go back and update The Yara one last time now, too. Then move on to Part Two of this first book. I’ve been dragging ass and moving slow the last two or three weeks. Hopefully I can kick it back into gear. Running out of time if I’m going to make my deadline for getting the first book done by the end of the year.
Present-Day Reflection

I was more or less right. I really did finish Part One: Children of Batu. It is still 21 chapters (if you count the two fables); 155 typed pages; 55,887 words. After I wrote Chapter 15: A Mother of Batu eleven years ago, then finished the last one, Chapter 20: Friends – that was it. I was right to believe that was really it. No more rewrites of those first chapters.
At least not until I got on a computer. And even then, it was merely polishing. No more reimagining or major structural changes.
I did go back and update The Yara one last time, too. Then I moved on to Part Two of this first book. Today it is the Twa Yal-Jukun sequence of chapters. Despite all the changes in my life over the last eleven years, and despite all the changes with my Batu narrative, there is still so much that is the same. Like déjà vu – or Kumbella – where it feels like history is repeating itself.
I’ve been dragging ass and moving slow the last two or three weeks. Still ignoring my work concerning the print-on-demand formatting. Hopefully I can kick it back into gear. Running out of time if I’m going to make my deadline for getting the first book’s paperback and hardbound versions done by the end of the month.
